Read-in: the movie

Here's the film of our flashmob event, the Word 2012 Read-In, which took place on Highbury Fields on Saturday.  The film was made by Work in Progress member Roman Sheppard Dawson.

The big read-in

The sun came out on Highbury Fields on Saturday, just in time for the arrival of scores of young people (and one gorilla), all carrying bright orange Word Festival bags and books donated by the wonderful people from Oberon Books.

The Read-In flashmob bemused, confused, intrigued and inspired the picnickers and passersby who saw it.  Hundreds of people took information about Word 2012 away with them.

The flash mob was a joint production between ICT and All Change Arts' B Project for young women.

The Read-In followed the launch of the Word 2012 festival on Friday evening.  Our Speakeasy group of young playwrights performed 100 word plays that they'd written to a very admiring audience.  You can read one 100 word play a day online - we're publishing a different one every day during the festival.

Word Festival starts

The Islington Word 2012 Festival starts tomorrow and ICT is in the thick of the action.

Word is a festival of all things written and read, of voice and freedom of expression.

Every day throughout the festival we're publishing a differen 100 word play on our website.  Each play, written by young people aged 12-21, has been written as part of Speakeasy, our collective of young playwrights and inspired by the Royal Court's 100 Word Play challenge as part of their young writers festival.

We're also organising a bizarre happening on Saturday in Highbury Fields and a wonderful hide and seek game of plays in and around Central Library.

Keep your eye on the website and twitter for more information.
